The exhibition Houses and Things. The racial laws of 1938 and private property (Le Case e Le Cose. Le Leggi razziali del 1938 e la proprietà privata) is a project of Fondazione 1563 per l’Arte e la Cultura della Compagnia di San Paolo and of the Historical Archives of Compagnia di San Paolo and it was on view at Fondazione 1563 from November 22, 2018 to January 31, 2019.
The exhibition featured several documents coming from the archival fond called Gestioni EGELI (1939-1997) of the San Paolo Banking Institute of Torino, which preserves the practices related to the assets confiscated and seized from the Jews according to the racial laws of 1938 and the subsequent ones, in addition to those related to the assets confiscated and seized from foreigners of enemy countries based on the laws of war during the Second World War.
The exhibition told the story of individuals and families who personally suffered expropriation and confiscation and it highlighted the big impact that the racial laws had on their personal lives.
